2013 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Roomy suv with contemporary technology. introductionthe ford explorer is one the best seven-passenger sport-utility vehicles available. It delivers the function and family friendly features of a minivan with the rugged appeal of an suv.  new for 2013 is an explorer sport trim with a twin-turbocharged version of ford's 3. 5-liter v6 engine, a sport-tuned suspension and all-wheel-drive. Using premium gas, explorer sport makes up to 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.  new options on 2013 explorer limited models include a lane departure warning system, heated steering wheel and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering column. All 2013 explorer models come standard with a front-passenger knee airbag.  this latest generation of the ford explorer, introduced for 2011, features a one-piece, unibody design rather than a ladder-type truck frame with a separate, bolted on body. The result is more car-like driving dynamics, as well as significant weight savings, which translates to better fuel economy.  powering all 2013 ford explorer models except the sport is 3. 5-liter v6 that makes 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It also includes hill start assist and hill descent control.  fuel economy with the base v6 engine on front-wheel-drive explorer models is an epa-estimated 17/24 mpg city/highway, or 17/23 mpg city/highway on 4wd models.  even with regular all-season tires, the explorer will blast through sand or traverse deep ditches and steep hills, no problem. It has more power than the standard v6 in the previous-generation explorer, with 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, and delivers an epa-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway.  the 2. 0 ecoboost is sufficiently powerful, and acceptable if mileage is the absolute priority. We prefer the standard 290-horspower v6 with its smooth, strong acceleration.  explorer's chassis is super rigid, which not only makes for great crash-test scores, but also a quiet cabin, excellent ride quality and solid handling that belies the explorer's considerable size.  inside, there is plenty of legroom in the second row, real space for passengers in the third, and up to 80. 7 cubic-feet of cargo space. It can be reconfigured in seconds, with split rear seats that fold with a button on each side and bounce back up with the pull of a lever. The interior is smartly styled and well finished. The materials and build quality are quite good.  the base explorer comes well equipped. The upgraded limited trim is leather-upholstered, with heated-seats and offered with premium audio, navigation and rear-seat dvd entertainment. The myfordtouch interface is optional, but can be cumbersome and at least a little annoying.  other suvs to consider in this class include the buick enclave, chevrolet traverse, dodge durango, gmc acadia, honda pilot or mazda cx-9. Fuel economy is an epa-estimated17/24 mpg city/highway and 17/23 mpg city/highway on 4wd models. Of torque with an epa-estimated 20/28 mpg city/highway.  explorer 29,100) comes standard with fabric upholstery, air conditioning, a six-way power driver seat with manual recline, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, power windows, locks and outside mirrors, a trip computer, 60/40 split-folding second-row seats, 50/50 split third-row seats, a six-speaker audio system with single cd player and auxiliary audio jack, rear privacy glass, roof rails and 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. Options include a tow package 570) and a sync with myford pakage 295), which adds voice activation, bluetooth and siriussx satellite radio capability with a six-month subscription.  explorer xlt 32,680) adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, ford's sync voice activation with satellite radio capability, a usb audio port, a keyless entry touchpad on the driver's door, automatic headlamps, rear parking sensors and 18-inch alloy wheels.  explorer limited 38,100) gets leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-speaker sony audio system with hd radio, power adjustable pedals with memory, a cargo net, a rearview camera, remote start, a 110-volt outlet, 20-inch painted aluminum wheels, and the myfordtouch touchscreen interface. Of torque (using premium fuel). Epa fuel economy estimates are 16/22 mpg city/highway. Standard features include sport front seats with fabric upholstery, unique interior and exterior trim, and many of the standard features found on the limited model.  safety features include ford's curve control, which monitors vehicle speed going into a corner and applies braking to individual wheels as needed, as well as mykey, which allows owners to set limits for vehicle speed and stereo volume. Other standard safety features include front side airbags, side curtain airbags, a front passenger knee airbag, stability control, traction control and trailer sway control.  optional safety features include a blind spot warning system with cross-traffic alert on explorer xlt models and above. Limited and sport models also get an available lane-departure warning and keeping system, as well as forward collision warning. walkaroundthe ford explorer is rugged but refined, familiar but fresh. It's a foot longer than the ford edge crossover, a few inches shorter than the dodge durango suv and about eight inches shorter than the chevy traverse. The amber indicators sweep back like narrow wings atop tidy main projector beams. The plastic grille is gray on the base explorer, body-colored on the xlt and satin-chrome on the limited. The hood looks short from the side, but long when looking straight down it. It's got two parallel humps and a scoop in the center. Rear taillights are led, and also look good.  the window outline is clean, bold and symmetrical, with blackened a-, b-, and d-pillars, and body-colored c-pillars that slant down and back and impart forward motion to the vehicle. The fender flares are inspired by the mustang and body sides follow the lines of the taurus. The three-bar grille strikes resemble those of the range rover, which was once-upon-a-time a member of the ford family.  wheels are 17-inch steel with plastic covers on the base explorer, 10-spoke 18-inch painted aluminum on the xlt, and 20-inch painted aluminum with spokes like flower petals on the limited. The optional 20-inch polished aluminum wheels have spokes like shriveling flower petals or crab pincers, and don't do justice to the car. interiorfit and finish inside the explorer is excellent, and we particularly like the limited's leather seats.  the front seats sit up high, which is good because the hood looks long from the driver's seat. The slanted center stack has a clean design and uses stylish satin-finish trim materials. The doors have metal speaker grilles, and curve into the dash panel. There's a big glovebox with a shelf, leather grab handles and armrests on explorers with leather interior, and long door pockets with space for a bottle.  one reason we like the base model is its conventional gauges, relatively simple 4. 2-inch lcd screen at the top of the center stack, and familiar mechanical knobs below. The base explorer doesn't come with the myfordtouch driver connect technology, and neither does the xlt, unless it's chosen as an option.  cars equipped with myfordtouch have two driver-configurable lcd screens in front of the driver on either side a big speedometer, and an 8-inch color touch screen at the top of the center stack. 2013 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The 2013 ford f-150 pickup truck manages to combine versatility, great fuel economy and dependability while offering several unique trims, cab styles and pickup box lengths. The f-150 is available in several distinctive trims. These include the xl, stx, xlt, fx, lariat, king ranch, platinum and the new for 2013 limited. For the off-road extremist, the segment exclusive svt raptor is available and delivers both outstanding off-road capabilities and daily use characteristics. Two powerful v6 engines are available and they consist of a 4-valve, dohc aluminum block 302-hp 3. 7-liter and a 365-hp 3. 5-liter ecoboost v6 that incorporates direct fuel injection and twin turbochargers to deliver considerable power and towing prowess while being very fuel efficient. Two v8 engines that are available include a 4-valve dohc 360-hp 5. 0-liter and a 2-valve sohc 411-hp 6. 2-liter and both v8 engines deliver impressive towing capabilities. Available ford exclusive features include three sync variations, mykey, securilock, securicode, selectshift, retractable pickup box side steps, a tailgate step, and innovative ford work solution options. For 2013, the f-150 receives a slight refresh. The harley davidson trim has been discontinued while the limited trim has been introduced. The fx 4x4 model now has standard hill descent control, sync is standard on the xlt, sync with myford is standard on the fx and lariat trims and sync with myford touch is standard on the king ranch, platinum and limited trims. All new sync controls are larger and easier to manipulate. New grille designs are available as well as segment exclusive hid headlamps and a voice activated navigation package.

2013 ford focus review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Sporty st and electric join newly redesigned lineup. introductionone of the most popular compacts on the market, the ford focus has a sharp, futuristic look that leaves behind old stereotypes of small, affordable american cars. Completely redesigned for the 2012 model year, the focus makes its claim as the technology and fuel-mileage leader in its class. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard and a 6-speed automatic is optional, with selectshift manual mode an option for the automatic. The standard 2. 0-liter engine makes 160 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque.  epa fuel economy estimates for the 2013 ford focus are 26/36 mpg city/highway with 5-speed manual, 28/38 mpg with 6-speed automatic.  the new 2013 focus st features a more powerful 2. 0-liter ecoboost engine that cranks out an impressive 247 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. Focus st comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox and sport-tuned suspension. Focus st comes as a hatchback only with a special body kit. The sporty focus st is rated 23/32 mpg city/highway.  the focus electric is powered by a 107-kilowatt electric motor that has an estimated range of 76 miles per full charge and an epa energy efficiency equivalent rating of 110 mpge city and 99 mpge highway or 105 mpge combined. It's an electric car, so gas stations are a thing of the past. The focus electric competes most closely with the leaf, although the mitsubishi i-miev is a smaller, less expensive all-electric alternative. The soft materials are clearly high quality, while the hard trim looks slathered on. There's excellent legroom in front, but rear legroom is only moderate. The gauges are easy to read and include a big tachometer and speedometer with cool blue needles.  the 2013 focus uses the myford touch connectivity interface powered by microsoft's sync. The driver uses three senses: see, hear, touch. Ford says the system is designed to be simple and completely intuitive for the driver, and maybe it was designed that way, but it doesn't always work that way. We found this latest version of myford touch difficult to use.  on the road, the focus is exceptionally quiet. A lot of productive effort went into making the cabin silent, with luxury-levels of sound insulation practically everywhere, including the doors, windshield, carpet and headliner. Ride quality was smooth and soft. We found the standard engine extremely smooth with plenty of power. However, we thought the 6-speed automatic was imprecise in its shifting, while the 5-speed manual felt ropey.  the 2013 ford focus competes with the toyota corolla, honda civic, chevrolet cruze, subaru impreza, hyundai elantra, mazda3, mitsubishi lancer, kia forte and volkswagen jetta. lineupthe 2013 ford focus comes in sedan and hatchback versions. Focus comes standard with a 2. 0-liter engine. Still no usb port or bluetooth, and rear drums. Navigation with siriusxm traffic and travel link is optional. Other options include heated front seats, remote start system, cargo area protector.  focus st hatchback 23,700) features the more powerful 2. 0-liter ecoboost engine, 6-speed manual transmission, and sports suspension. Focus st comes with cloth seats.  focus electric 39,200) features an electric motor and a single-speed direct-drive transmission. The focus electric comes with cloth upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, 60/40 folding rear seats, myford touch and myford mobile interfaces, with two unique driving screens, rearview camera, reverse sensing system, mykey, rain-sensing wipers, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.  safety equipment in all focus models includes six airbags with the latest technology, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, rearview camera, tire pressure monitor. walkaroundthe ford focus looks like a big fiesta, with an unmistakably ford shape. The hatchback looks especially aerodynamic. It yields a 0. 295 coefficient of drag, an improvement by nearly 8 percent over the previous (pre-2012) focus.  active grille shutters block airflow to the radiator when it's not required, which improves aerodynamics and fuel mileage. Nascar racers did this with cardboard and duct tape for years, but now it's fully electronic; the shutters have 15 different positions, based on engine temperature. Other cars such as the chevrolet cruze are doing this, as well.  ford calls the distinctive grille split-trapezoid. There are eight thin horizontal bars in a huge-mouthed trapezoid whose wide side is the bottom and is divided into three segments by two body-colored vertical bars like catfish chin whiskers. It looks better than it sounds, balanced by a horizontal opening above it, with one thin chrome bar and a neat blue ford oval. The long thin trapezoidish headlamps wrap forward and downward from the cheeks of the car. They're like sweeping dragon's eyes, says ford.  sculpted lines at the sills and door handles flow back from neat modest flared front fenders to give the focus a forward-moving slant: kinetic design energy, ford calls it. The windshield is steeply raked and roofline steeply dropped to the liftgate glass, making about as much of a teardrop as a chopped hatchback can be. The side window outline is shaped like a picture of smoke traveling over a sleek car in a wind tunnel. Big vertical taillamps make the focus look being safe and volvo-like.  the focus se looks cleaner, we think, lacking chrome beltline trim. The 17-inch titanium wheels are multi-spoke wagon wheels, better looking than the optional 18-inch wheels that are like big chrome stars with thin prongs.  the focus chassis uses a crash structure designed for the larger taurus. More than 55 percent is high-strength steels, including boron b-pillars and front beam, and a decoupling powertrain cradle to keep the engine out of the cabin in a head-on crash. interiorthe first thing we notice about the focus is its seats. Focus models have had comfortable seats for years tne the current models come standard in sturdy fabric, with leather optional. The seats in the focus are much better than those in the chevrolet cruze.  the interior of the focus feels like a cockpit. With all its bells and whistles, we could easily imagine being a pilot with all those dials, switches, controls that feel like they wrap around to the elbows on the center stack, and led ambient lighting in a choice of seven colors. The focus electric feels even more futuristic, with two screens that show information about driving efficiency, charge capacity and other do-dads related to the electric powertrain.  the gauges on the dashboard and instrument panel are easy to read: big tach and speedo with cool blue needles, fuel and engine temp between them, and easy-to-read digital info above the fuel and temp. However, we haven't been in a base s model, maybe it's got a more spartan interior missing the overkill trim. Ford says it's designed to be simple and completely intuitive for the driver. We're not sure they've succeeded in achievi. Bucket Seats✔ Power Locks✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Tachometer✔ AM/FM✔ Climate Control✔ Bluetooth✔ Remote Start✔ Cruise Control✔ Aluminum Wheels

2013 ford flex review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Improved, great for family road trips. introductionsubstantially upgraded for 2013, the ford flex is an innovative vehicle, and the only full-size car of its kind. The mazda5, a distant cousin, is the same people-moving type of vehicle in the midsize class, but the larger and smoother flex is in a field of one. And 45 percent of flex owners are women.  with standard seating for seven in its 2-3-2 configuration (optional 2-2-2), the flex is all about people. Except when the seats fold flat, as they easily do; then it can be all about cargo. Because flex is not built on a rugged body-on-frame chassis, it's not like an old-school suv. Nor is flex like a van. At first ford called it a crossover utility vehicle, but now ford has decided that the term is unclear, so the latest official word is that it's just a utility vehicle. We'd call it a superb cross between a limo and a taxi. The hood and roof are long and flat, the windshield stands relatively straight, the side and rear glass is flat, and the corners are sharp, although the front end has been rounded a bit for 2013. The shape is honest, simple, and even elegant, for a box. It suggests interior room and maximum space utilization. It has presence and upscale cues that some might call bling. The grille and tailgate have been redone for 2013, with a chrome or satin aluminum band, but frankly we can't say that's an improvement over the old three bars and signature blue oval.  there are substantial improvements for 2013. Most notable is a revised v6 that comes standard on the base 2013 flex se and 2013 flex sel: for 2013, the 3. 5-liter v6 engine delivers 25 more horsepower, to 287 hp (with 254 foot-pounds of torque at 4000 rpm), while gaining 1 mile per gallon, to 18 city/25 highway, according to the epa. This boost to the base 3. 5-liter v6 is the result of new twin independent variable camshaft timing, or ti-vct as ford calls it. Ford continues to lead the way among american manufacturers in engine technology.  the full-tilt flex limited all-wheel-drive model uses the dazzling twin-turbo 3. 5-liter ecoboost v6 with 365 horsepower and 350 foot-pounds of torque at a super-low 1500 rpm, which gets just 2 mpg less than the base v6, or 16 city/23 highway. But we also got good miles on an easy freeway and around town, and the flex ride is smooth and composed. It's comfortable and doesn't feel firm. The cabin is silent and steady. It's a pleasure to drive.  we loved the seamless 6-speed transmission shifting and programming, and the ergonomics of the perfectly designed paddles, on the limited. The 2013 flex interior looks full, spacious, and luxurious. The basics and details are well covered. Materials, plastics, fabrics, leathers and carpets are well matched with textures, and sheen is nicely controlled. The visual impression is upscale comfort and luxury, more lincoln than ford.  the cabin is exceptionally quiet, as there's been a lot of work on sound deadening on the new 2013 flex, for example liners in the wheelwells.  the 2013 ford flex comes with a new brake system. We used the brakes hard on curvy two-lanes, and we loved the responsiveness and pedal feel. There's also new electronic power steering with a quicker steering ratio. Although the flex is no sports sedan, the cornering is impressive for a vehicle like this, with fairly high limits.  however there's more to that than the tightened steering and suspension. For 2013, there's also new torque vectoring and curve control technology. More typically found on high-performance cars, torque vectoring uses the brakes to imitate the effect of a limited-slip differential, balancing torque between the front wheels during cornering, resulting in better grip and reduced understeer. Curve control is like electronic stability control, only quicker; it senses when a vehicle is entering a curve too fast, and applies the brakes to individual wheels to cut the speed by up to 10 mph in one second. Think freeway on-ramps or off-ramps, especially in the wet.  if those safety features weren't enough, the 2013 flex is available with the automotive world's first production rear inflatable shoulder belts, designed to offer improved comfort and protection for rear-seat passengers. The advanced restraint system is designed to help reduce head, neck and chest injuries for rear seat passengers, often children and older passengers who can be more vulnerable to such injuries. lineupthe 2013 ford flex comes in three models: flex se, flex sel, flex limited.  the front-wheel-drive flex se 30,885) comes with ford's new 3. 5-liter ti-vct v6 engine making 287 horsepower, and a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual gear selection. Seating is three rows, of two-three-two seats in cloth upholstery, with 6-way power driver's seat. Sel trim adds foglamps, stainless steel exterior trim, power heated mirrors, 18-inch painted aluminum wheels, dual zone climate control, 10-way power driver seat and 6-way power passenger seat, myfordtouch electronic controls with 8-inch lcd touch-screen, media hub with usb ports, input jacks, and satellite radio.  flex limited fwd 39,230) and limited awd 43,850) get the 3. 6-liter ecoboost twin-turbo v6 making 365 horsepower, and the 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Limited also adds chrome door handles, satin aluminum grille and liftgate trim, hid headlamps, led taillamps, 19-inch painted aluminum wheels, 110v power outlet, adjustable pedals with memory, ambient lighting, woodgrain instrument and door trim, perforated leather-trimmed seats, blis blind spot monitoring system, hd radio, push-button start, power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, rearview camera, remote start, sony 12-speaker audio system, and voice-activated navigation system. Active safety features include torque vectoring control, curve control, anti-lock brakes (abs), advancetrac electronic traction control, rsc roll stability control, brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution (ebd). Optional all-wheel drive can enhance safety in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe ford flex is a stylish box. Some will find the shape honest, simple, and even elegant, for a box. It suggests interior room and maximum space utilization. It has presence and upscale cues that some might call bling. It's not shy.  five feet eight inches tall, the flex is higher than a station wagon but lower than an suv like the ford explorer. We wonder if it's an afterthought. We're not sure if it helps or not. These indents must also help stiffen the doors, for a more solid closing sound.  what does work is the addition for 2013 of black for the roof (adding to silver or white); too bad the black roof comes with a package that includes 20-inch wheels. We drove a titanium-colored flex with a black roof. Climate Control✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Passenger Airbag✔ Remote Start✔ Navigation System✔ Aluminum Wheels
